ASTROLOGY THIS WEEK: JANUARY 28 - FEBRUARY 3

Tuesday Jan 29th
6:52 PM PST: Sun conjunct Mercury at 9° Aquarius 55’
In an Aquarian state of mind, we are forever arriving at the precipice of progress. We aim for the ideal of where level of challenge only JUST supersedes level of ability - the kind of precision that pushes us to improvement. As the Sun conjoins Mercury in Aquarius, a door opens to innovation. Like sunlight blasting through a storm cloud, this aspect offers us opportunities to turn a tornado into a technical advancement. Look at fissures in the structure of your thinking. Be okay with being “wrong” or in the very least, with the possibility of something else being right. Previously firm theories beginning to fracture is a sign you’re on the verge of revolutionary growth.

Thursday Jan 31st
6:21 AM PST: Saturn in Capricorn sextile Neptune in Pisces, both at 14°55’
With these two planets in their home signs supporting each other in a stabilizing and communicative sextile, we can balance our fantasies with focused realism. Take desire as a direction. Use this moment to question the realities under which you’re operating, especially if they’re not working to get you what you want. Neptune has a tendency to idealize, living in a utopian fantasy world. Saturn often draws rigid boundaries and struggles with fluidity. This aspect helps us acknowledge what is actually in front of us, ask ourselves what we need to feel firmly supported and adapt our living structure to fit those needs. Dream big and do the work to move it.

Friday February 1st
7:15 PM PST: Mars in Aries square Pluto in Capricorn, both at 21°40’
Traditionally a war aspect, this square can have the effect of instigating some power struggles. Challenge meets adversity. Force is fought with anger. Sometimes arguments need to happen in order to illuminate and release resentments that hold us back. Pluto in Capricorn is a deep desire to and fear of control. Mars in Aries is strong, free and fearless, but also thoughtless. Asserting and claiming your experience is healthy, but not when it obstructs conversation.

Squares need friction followed by integration. Rather than demanding, attempt to open a dialogue. Let others have their experience. When in doubt, remember that betraying yourself is more painful than the fear of another’s reaction to any perceived betrayal. You can only control your actions - nobody has control over you, nor you of them. If you’re sitting in discomfort, you’re probably growing.

Saturday February 2nd
3:40 PM PST: Venus in Sagittarius trine Uranus in Aries, both at 28°55’
If there were ever an aspect for spontaneous acts of love, this would be it. Venus in Sagittarius might not be sensitive, but is definitely self-assured. Uranus in Aries is intuitive to the max. You can make plans but you can’t plan outcomes. Perhaps like a pot on a stove that bubbles over too quick but tastes delightful anyway. Allow sparks to fly. Let this energy lift your spirit. You don’t need a reason to feel alive.

Sunday, February 3rd
1:55 PM PST: Mercury in Aquarius sextile Jupiter in Sagittarius, both at 18°16’
This aspect takes Tuesday’s Mercury/Sun conjunction and expands on any deep realizations we had. Aquarius and Sagittarius are both signs committed to social progress. Mercury in Aquarius is sharp-witted, able to see the ideas that each element of the collective needs to address. Jupiter in Sagittarius is a word to the wise, with profound understanding and prophetic influence. Spend this day listening for messages from the universe. Look to ordinary people in your life, friends, lovers, even a barista in a coffee shop and notice where sagacity seeps through the seams. Commit to learning something and be open to the information that finds you.

2:30 PM PST: Venus enters Capricorn
As Venus enters Capricorn, commitment becomes a connecting theme. Values are refined and we focus on how we can save resources for an unknown future. Consider what commitment means to you. Be a trendsetter of traditions you’d like to honor. Remember that love and commitment are not prerequisites of each other but they can be complementary elements in a relationship. Use this time to have conversations with partners about dreams for the future and a foundation that will take you there. Just because your dreams don’t align perfectly, doesn’t mean you can’t build a more beautiful one together. Be open to slowly establishing your base.
