HOROSCOPES FOR THE FULL MOON IN ARIES

On Sunday, October 13th, the Full Moon perfects at 20°Aries14’ at 2:08pm PST. Sitting in a tight square to Pluto and a charitable trine from Jupiter, this Full Moon, in true Libra Season Fashion, is designed to help us simultaneously converge and diverge. The configuration around this Moon creates the kind of challenge that will illuminate our unique obstacles to healthy relating. It will exhibit how our selfishness steals from us. How selflessness, when unmonitored, can be equally ego-driven and destructive. This Moon will usher us into understanding the ways we solicit kinds of control in the name of security that ultimately can’t keep us safe. It will clarify the line between throwing away our agency and surrendering outcomes. As the Sun in Libra carefully considers the many moving pieces in our worldwide game of chess, the Moon in Aries tugs us into action, perhaps making a play before we’re quite ready. Pluto in his position, encourages us to alter our patterning such that we can locate a little more peace. Jupiter expands our perception of directionality and buoys us with blessings when we take a risk on our behavior. If you are normally the quiet and cautious type, use this moment to share your caution with the wind. If you are generally decisive, quick to jump in, perhaps use this Moon to polish your relationship to patience.

I’ve been speaking recently and frequently about Bayo Akomolafe. In a lecture given in April titled “The Times are Urgent, Let Us Slow Down” Bayo said “interruptions are voices too.”* I would like to tell you a story about an interruption I experienced recently.

Late last Saturday evening, I was returning home from a week and a half of dog-sitting for some dear friends and I called a car. For the sake of the environment and my bank account, I almost always select the carpool option. I’ll admit, in my fatigue seeing that the car was seven minutes away, I regretted this choice. I had little patience for just seven minutes when my sweet bed awaited. Moreover, I was frustrated by my own lack of patience. Often when I notice this type of reaction to a seemingly little thing, I try to cultivate some intrigue around the situation. Where there is resistance, there is a lesson. The app also notified me that my driver, who appeared to be from somewhere in Southeast Asia, was hard of hearing. In the Bay Area, this is often code for “your driver doesn’t speak much English.” I didn’t see this situation as a problem as I believe there is much to be learned from what emerges when we have to communicate without the comfort of shared oral language. Still, you will see how this detail affected the continually unfolding events...

When the car approached, I walked out to it, heavy bags laden on both of my shoulders. Noticing another passenger in the backseat, I asked the driver if it was alright to sit in the front. He nodded and I hoisted myself onto the clean black leather, a pungent smell filling my nose and immediately thereafter, a child crying in the backseat. As we embarked to what I believed to be the other passengers’ stop, the infant’s cries increased in ferocity. I noted the irony of my desire to return home to calm juxtaposed with this experience, as if I’d slipped into Alanis Morrisette’s 1995 album Jagged Little Pill. The child’s mother responded in a polarizing string of soothing Spanish urgency “ja ja ja papi, ja ja ja” bouncing her toddler up and down as if rocking a boat to align with the waves, simulating peace amidst a storm.

I tracked the GPS vigilantly, hoping we’d soon come to her stop, for everyone’s sake as much as my own. Then, raising her voice above the screams she asked “how many minutes before the hospital? My baby is not okay.” The driver shook his head as if to say “I understand what you’re asking and I can’t give you what you want and if I could, I don’t know how to say it.” I was alarmed when I heard ‘hospital’. I immediately wanted to figure out the situation and fix it. I looked at the GPS destination and said “about two more minutes,” leaning back in my seat, craning my neck, crooning quietly. I was subconsciously trying to project my eagerness to comfort the pained kiddo. We pulled up to the destination which was not a hospital but someone’s house. As we waited there for a few minutes, the child continuing to scream, I checked my app and realized we were picking up another passenger. Immediately, thoughts hurricaned through my mind. We shouldn’t be picking up someone else. Why are we still waiting? Why didn’t she call a private car? Probably because she didn’t understand the app. She must have picked the cheapest option and maybe doesn’t have much money. Why doesn’t Lyft offer emergency services? This driver might not even know she’s going to the hospital. These apps are not designed to cater to immigrants. Why is our country and its technology so hostile? Wow I am assuming so many things right now. How interesting. I’m know supposed to learn something from this but I don’t know what it is.

When the next passenger got in the car the app told us it was dropping me off next. I stopped them. I said “if she needs to go to the hospital we should take her there first.” I started to search for the hospital address in my phone but it slipped quickly underneath the seat and out of reach. Wow I am useless. Then driver stopped the car and offered me his phone, motioning like he was asking for help while the new passenger, who had a slight Arabic accent, seemed to be searching on his own device. The locations all seemed to be wrong and the thirty seconds it took us to pull the address up on our screens felt like ages. The driver started moving again. I spent the next seven minutes murmuring “awww honey” and “oh sweet babe” and “it’s okay.” Seven minutes. I’m still not sure whom I was addressing; the mysterious driver, the other passenger/my mutual aid, the crying child, the stressed mother, or myself, at a loss for any practical action.

The address in google maps, of course was incorrect, but thankfully we recognized the emergency room when we passed by. We pointed for the driver to pull over. The mother got out of the car. She was much younger than I’d expected from her elder energy, perhaps no more than 25. I don’t know if she understood we were trying to help or if she saw us as barriers, obstacles to a desperate destination.

The invitation for me that night, was not necessarily to harness composure. Nor was it to save the child. It was not to pacify the driver, to make nice with the other passengers, or even to ease towards my destination. The invitation was to understand that the path is not linear. Was to examine the crossroads - the devilish moments that catch us off-guard like all good teachers do. The invitation was to ask a question and listen for the other questions that emerge from it. The invitation was to notice nuance. Was to notice anything at all and in that, to notice that there is so much to notice. Once this space, the invitation was to appreciate all I have and the abundance that emerges when we give our present attention.

One of my yoga teachers often guides us into a pose and then, before offering any modifications says “this is a great place to work.” As in, this is a great place to explore, study, investigate. To give it your all before you skate over opportunities that are already offering themselves to you. I invite you, on this Full Moon to refrain from judgement and in its place, to offer your infinite attention to whatever presents itself. To stop trying to get where you think you want to go. To be here now.

Aries and Libra represent the constant play between self and other. At worst, they cast us into binaries. At best, they show us how to see through and gaze beyond them. To listen for the symphony of self that reverberates in context. Aries and Libra argue for our simultaneous self-insistence and relativity to our environment. They remind us why we must avoid reductionist responses. They illuminate the seams between action and reaction. Intention and unpredictable impact. Aries compels us to beat the drum of our resounding life-force. Libra shows us how to play it in concert with our surroundings.

Your horoscopes this month are written like reminders of what you already know when you are willing to look for it. They alert you to the notion that obstacles are summons to shapeshift. They are infused with the understanding that crossroads are not barriers, but recollections that the path is not direct, undeviating or sequential. They intend to speak with Jupiter’s voice, to see with his kind and wrinkly wise eyes, and to teach you that twinkling is not only possible, but necessary amidst the most strenuous of struggles. Let them beg the questions that inspire you to see interruptions as evolving inquiries. Revel in confusion. Embrace obstruction. Repeatedly invite your own attendance.

If you know your rising sign and your sun sign, read both. If you only know your sun sign, that's okay too. If you like, you can read your moon sign for good measure. Horoscopes and forecasts are meant to be read as inspiration. The impact of planetary forces on our lives is more immense than we can see and a horoscope's level of resonance can vary from week to week. I suggest revisiting this page as often as you like while tasting the writing of a few other astrologers. Note which voices uplift your spirit. As always, take what you like and leave the rest. If you find support here, consider making a contribution.

horoscope for aries and aries rising

A mountain does not demand we see her. She simply stands tall. Look for what majesty there is in all that is modest. Creed rests not in a dogma of needing others’ attention but in diligent persistent, and often infinitesimal action. Your belief in yourself and your position emerges from experience. Use the wisdom you know is true because you have lived it. When you find yourself doubting, remember the occasions that taught you how to arrive where you are. Then scan the horizon for the stars that have yet to set. The direction you seek is the line that fuses your past to your future. When you walk along this edge, all who are meant to will witness your earnest work.

horoscope for taurus and taurus rising

Demons are designed to disturb our faith. The stronger your belief, the more they roar or whisper, attempting to sway you from what you know is yours to do. But monsters are not all meaningless. Remember that resilience generates itself when challenge abounds. When giants plague your body and mind, you cannot ignore the invitation to develop deeper understanding. Sickness is a great teacher. Ills open the door to the classroom where you learn to sift through what is important and what must be let go. Disentangle yourself from the demons that distract you. Elevate high ideals. Point your focus on healing yourself first and all the pieces to the puzzle will become evident.

horoscope for gemini and gemini rising

Friends and long-time loves are worth the wait and the while. Are not fair-weather but will weather with you. Stress on your time and resources does not mean you need to work harder for additional assets. “More more more” often sings in harmony with “never enough”. Refuse to chant this tune. You do not need to drain your bank of time. You do not need to feel guilty for the things you can’t get to. Pour energy into prioritizing the ones with whom you are replenished. Abundance multiplies itself not when you are exhausted, but when you are organized. Share and you will find you have plenty that returns in various forms. Moderate your social schedule and you will be more deeply connected to the cornucopia of every occasion.

horoscope for cancer and cancer rising

Commitments keep you clear on what you are offering, not on what another will give to you. When your expectations are not met, this does not mean you have aimed too high. Consider that standards have no moral implication. You can never ask for too much because asking for something is an an act of sharing agency. When we ask, we give permission as much as we beg it. Communicate clearly what you want and need and others will be better able to meet you where you are. When your time feels abused, it is because you are not putting yourself first. Wake up to what you want to achieve. Come home to your creative practice. You will be witnessed for your efforts when you attend to them.

horoscope for leo and leo rising

Living fully does not entail death-defying acts. Embrace whatever hurdles are slowing you down enough to treasure the process of eldering. Barriers invite learning. Today you may experience struggles but tomorrow you may tell their stories. Wisdom thickens with age. Shines like gold when it is shared, but will rust if taken for granted. When you welcome the understanding that everything passes, you become equipped to appreciate the teaching of this little while you are in. Wrinkles are wonderful narrators. Like creases in well-loved books. Like the light that falls between the folds of mussed sheets on a Sunday morning. The lines that define your ailments also illuminate what is precious and passing.

horoscope for virgo and virgo rising

Despite what you may believe, you are skilled at balancing your bank. At leveling with your losses. At reveling in your many resources. While you may admire a rich aesthetic, you must remember that beauty is rarely overcrowded. If you are looking for elegance, let something go. Grandeur will emerge in the space your eyes can relax, relieved of effort. Understand what it means to have enough and recognize that any wants beyond this point are superficial. Most desires are distractions from the work that cultivates true joy. Bliss is not found in an item, but in practice. It is harvested in the recognition that spirit infuses every place and thing. Your resting place is most enriching when it holds wisdom rather than things. Unburden your pack by sharing what you can, including responsibilities, with others. Free yourself not by gathering, but by seeking. Your home is more nomadic than most. Go to the place where the plant thrives in the earth instead of pulling up roots that would rather you visit them.

horoscope for libra and libra rising

You might be attracted to active souls but patience is a power you can revere. Commitments are not born in a day. Like a garden, they need frequent circulation of the soil. The cleanse of water from full cups on both sides. The loving warmth of the sun and the truth brought by its luminance. It is not always easy to share intimacy with dear ones but it is easier when we are honest. If you want to construct a home on fertile ground, you have to practice respecting it. If you do not sort your seeds before you plant them, your crop may grow confused. Treat weeds and thorns delicately but do not ignore them. Remember that which pricks and stings, like nettles, clarifies boundaries. Dandelions are often unwanted in certain plots but their flowers and leaves make delightful tea. Anything undesirable is likely a lush medicine. Make sure you’re taking a spoonful a day.

horoscope for scorpio and scorpio rising

Calmness of mind does not come from praise or pleasure. Does not present itself in the absence of pain or sorrow. Peace is a product of balance. When your questions are colossal, only the nuance born from meditation will suffice them. If you seek serenity, your task is not to rid yourself of suffering, nor to overflow in joy. Rather, it is to situate yourself on the plane of temperance. Become like a boulder in the river which does not move no matter how passionate the current. Let disapproval and appreciation wash over you like passing tides. Madness makes its home in ego. When you are of service without attachment to outcomes, you destroy the structures that lead to lunacy. Return to your mountainous inquiries. Settle gratefully in the stillness of the everlasting sighs they produce.

horoscope for sagittarius and sagittarius rising

Master works need more than passion. Require resources. Desire diligent and divine devotion. And yes, involve examination of assets. It can be tempting, dear Sagittarius, to simply wing it. Yet experience will teach you that getting rightsized about what you have allows you to take a load off. Lends you insight about what you can offer. Dreams require a balance of inspiration and significant supplies if you want to realize them. When there is something you lack, learn to turn to your soul-family for sustenance. Strength reveals itself in the scores of friends who have stayed honest. Your generosity is not unnoticed. It is okay right now, to be the one who eats from the fruit bowl rather than the one who replenishes it. True sharing means you give and you take. If you are tipping too far into worry or resentment, you are no longer right-sized. This lesson looks more like a candle than a raging bonfire. Accept the soft light of support. Learn to burn slow and sweet before you burn out.

horoscope for capricorn and capricorn rising

Interruptions are awakeners. Contradictions are arches that decorate the entryway to unity. Every bottom you hit is the springboard to higher consciousness. It is not wrong to share your postulations with the world. It is a responsibility to learn and teach the inner and outer workings of things. Do not be reductionist in your public pursuits. Nuance is not a nightmare but a gift of the night. It is the reminder that clues emerge from and within darkness. You may be structured, astute even, but you have never been superficial. You understand that it is not simple to be quick and comprehensive. Shortcuts are keys to unkind karma. Learn that wisdom seeps through slowly, in accessible amounts, over extended time. Do not expect friends, followers and foes to learn any differently. Meet your audience at every step of the process. Realize that you need to practice talking about problems if you want to speak to them with eloquence. Do not ask yourself to be perfect the first, second, or any time. If you are doubtful, pray for the desire for permission to be unhurried and profound.

horoscope for aquarius and aquarius rising

Faith may find its inspiration in suffering but becomes sure and spirited when you breathe consistently. When you right yourself with ritual. When you give away what you learn from it. When you study in service. The dogma you seek is not binary but it is equitable. Examine the way your community holds itself accountable to each other. Checks and balances can energize our complementary offerings. When disturbed, they can also trap us in the extremes of binary doctrines. When you find yourself spinning like a top, retrace your steps. The path is not straight but circular, cyclical and spiraling. Locating your center is a matter of going back to basics. What were the first things you learned about this struggle long ago? Realize that even this knowledge has deeper roots. Whatever has turned sour and rotten was once rich and lush. Conceive yourself in this place. Restore your bonds with the basics.

horoscope for pisces and pisces rising

Assets are only as useful as the things for which you can exchange them. The restoration of resources happens when what we’ve shared somehow returns to us. Remember that richness indicates a deep well, perhaps of money, but also virtue, friends, and creative vigor. As you release your grip on the thing you began reaching for six months ago, consider what you intended that thing to create in the first place. You don’t have to burden yourself with excessive labor to light up your life with community. You don’t even need a reason to need friends. Tug your attention away from making enough to magnetize others. When you stop trying to quantify or commodify yourself, your worthiness abounds. Recognize that you are already abundantly alluring. Legacies are really just stories. They don’t survive unless someone decides to tell them. But they aren’t there to tell unless you write them first. Stop collecting. Focus on sharing what you already have with your collective. Receive the love that is waiting for you to see it. Be open to all the wealth in the world in the form in which it comes.
